Ghana Ltd recently
commissioned the biggest CIL
plant at it Ahafo operartion. The
Plant is rated 1100tone/hr.....
A Knelson concentrator can best be described as a high-speed
centrifuge that combines centrifugally enhanced gravitational force
with a patented fluidization process. This combination provides
unequalled performance in the recovery of free gold.
The concentrating cone is made of a highly wear resistant
polyurethane compound which is cast into a stainless steel shell.
The conical shape is comprised of a series of horizontally segmented
rings; increasing in diameter from bottom to top. Around the
circumference of each ring is a series of fluidization holes that
enable the injection of water into the ring. The precise size,
number and location of these holes is the result of extensive
research and on-going product development. The concentrating cone is
installed into the rotor housing, thus creating a water chamber.
(BIOX CD30SS installation at Ashanti BIOX Plant)
Fluidization water is introduced to the water chamber through the
rotor shaft. Once the chamber has filled to capacity, the water is
then forced through the fluidization holes and into the
concentrating rings. This injection process is done tangentially in
a counter-clockwise direction.
Knelson Concentrators are typical installed to recover free gold
from cyclone underflow material on gold recovery plants.
Machines
models ranges from a 45kg per hour laboratory model KC-MD3 to a
650-1000tph KC-XD70 unit.
Since its introduction in Ghana in 1988, Knelson concentrators have
become a standard in gold recovery plants in Ghana and the entire
West African Region.
The population of Knelson Concentrators have increased from a single
7.5 inch Knelson Concentrator in 1988 to 70 units in Ghana and 15
for the rest of West Africa.
Knelson Concentrator units are in all parts of the country in small,
medium and large scale alluvial and hard rock gold mining
operations.
20% (average) of all gold produced in hard rock operation in Ghana
are from Knelson Concentrator Installations
Upcoming installations are for Newmont And Chirano Gold Mines this
year – 2005/2006
Newmont Gold have purchased 2x 300tph Knelson Concentrators (2x KC-
XD48). The new machines are expected to be installed in 2005/2006
Chirano Gold Mines will be installing a 300tph KC-XD48 Knelson
concentrator unit by the 3rd Quarter of 2005.
Current major Hard Rock and alluvial Knelson Concentrator
Installations in Ghana and West Africa are as follows:
